The Strolling Useless Showrunner demystifies the Reapers … a bit of: “They function on shady paths”
If you had more questions than answers about The Reapers on Sunday in the first half a dozen Season 10 bonus episodes of The Walking Deads, everything goes according to Executive Producer Angela Kang’s plan.
“We’ll reveal a lot about her over time,” she told TVLine, “but we wanted to leave the audience with the secret of who Pope is and what it means to be drawn by him.”
Nothing good, one can say for sure. In “Home Sweet Home” a camouflaged sniper selected several members of Maggie’s new circle of friends before telling her, “Pope has tagged you” and tearing himself to pieces with a hand grenade. In addition, his group – the aforementioned Reapers – apparently destroyed the community where the hill’s former leader and son, Hershel, settled after being separated from the altruistic Georgie and the twins.
“The Reapers are purposely a bit mystical,” admits Kang, “because I think that’s part of the ethos of this group. They work in a shady way. “
All we know for sure so far is that “as a group they clearly have a background in militaristic combat techniques”. That and they are bad, bad boys. Not that they see themselves as antagonists. “Like many of our bad guys,” Kang notes, “I don’t necessarily think the Reapers see themselves as the bad guys.”
What do you think of the new threat to our survivors? Impressive, yes, but as scary as the Whisperers, for example? Hit the comments with your reactions.
