Texas governor ends statewide masks mandate and tries to open Texas 100%.

Texas will be the first state in the United States to officially open 100% through a government mandate given by Governor Greg Abbott this afternoon.

Nearly 5.7 million vaccine shots have been administered in Texas, and the state is now administering nearly a million vaccine shots every week, according to Abbott’s news release. Texas has a population of roughly 29 million, according to 2019 data, so the entire state could potentially be vaccinated by the end of the month if it stays on track.

Statesman writes: “With Abbott’s new contract, all companies can increase their utilization to 100%. However, district officials may employ “COVID mitigation strategies” if coronavirus hospital stays exceed 15% of an area’s total bed capacity for seven days. “

Despite the benefits of vaccines, many consider it premature to open up the state. Journalist David Gura noted that current COVID (new cases) numbers are now higher, if only slightly, when Governor Abbott first announced a mask mandate last July.

When Governor Greg Abbott announced a nationwide mask mandate, I was on a trip to Houston.

This Thursday July 2nd, there have been 7,434 new # COVID19 cases in #Texas and 44 deaths.

Yesterday there were 8,140 cases and 129 deaths.

Still, the decision is sure to please many, rightly or not, fed up with the lockdown and trying to get back to what happened. Ubbi Dubbi takes place April 24-25 at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, just half an hour outside of Dallas. Camping will also be available.

The event does not have COVID-19 safety information on its website, but does include a COVID-19 waiver and clearance: “By purchasing tickets, you acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk you may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by attending the Event and that such exposure or infection could result in injury, illness, disability and death. “

Adventure Club, Illenium, Gammer, Seven Lions and more are scheduled to perform.
