Tyler Perry’s The Oval took us on one hell of a good ride in its second season, which stalled on Tuesday – the emphasis on dead.
The mid-season BET drama finale featured the not-entirely-unexpected death of Diane Wilmont, brutally eclipsed by Kyle even after learning valuable information about Bobby and Max. Kyle informed Donald that “someone” had been assigned to dispose of Diane’s body. So you know this job is bound to get mixed up. (Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t it take the Secret Service half a season to throw away a mattress?)
We also said goodbye to sweet Miss Laura, who had died since Priscilla had last visited her in the hospital. Words cannot describe Priscilla’s awkwardness when Laura’s husband says, “She has to do better,” only to get him to dryly reply, “No, she died.” (Oops.) But Priscilla didn’t want to accept the death of her bestie so easily. She went to the nurse full of Nancy Drew and asked if Laura had any visitors the night she died. “Not that I know of … or can share,” replied the nurse, which was not sketchy at all.
Read on for a breakdown of the other key developments from The Oval’s midseason finale:
* After a million years of waiting – and as many full plates of food tossed around the house – Nancy finally revealed that Picky’s father … the man she cheated on Richard with … was Richard’s father. Gasp! Richard agreed to give Nancy the benefit of the doubt (“Did he rap you?”), But he became far less understanding when she confirmed it was consensual. It was a rough scene to see. Oh, and Barry was kidnapped by Ruth’s cult, but that felt a lot more important.
* We picked Sam up again with Boning Victoria in the Yellow Oval Room, whereupon he apologized profusely. Always a great sign. And just as the scenario felt like it couldn’t get more romantic, Sam asked the question every woman wants to hear after sex: “Are you still getting your period?” Victoria scoffed at the idea that Sam’s pedestrian sperm was actually her could impregnate, but he remained firmly convinced that she was taking “the extra pill”. A real charmer, this one.
* Speaking of wizards, Jason revealed that he had observed his mother’s entire encounter with Sam from the shadows in the best possible way: “It smells like sex in here, doesn’t it?” His first impulse, of course, was against that information Victoria by playing the audio for Priscilla over the phone. After her worst fears were finally confirmed, Priscilla – who was already completely out of hand – threw herself into a blind rage.
