Oscars structure changes to 2021 pre-show, announces new post-show

In case you’re worried the Oscars are going to be too short!

The Oscars would look different this year, but now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the awards show has unveiled its new pre-show segments as well as a new post-show.

Instead of having the performances for the best original song during the main show, they will be part of the pre-show while the post-show consists of the winners having their statues engraved. The show routine change includes the pre-show performances of the best original songs that are pre-recorded. Called Oscars: In the spotlightthe 90-minute pre-show is moderated by Hamilton‘s Ariana DeBose and Bad trip star Lil Rel Howery. The show gives fans a glimpse into the journey to the Oscars, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at Hollywood’s biggest night.

“Fight for you” (Judas and the black messiah), “Hear my voice” (The Chicago Trial 7), “I do (see)” (The life before us) and “speak now” (One night in Miami …) is filmed on the Dolby Family Terrace of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, while the previously recorded segment for “Husavik” (Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga) is filmed in Husavik, Iceland.

The Oscars: After dark Show with host Colman Sunday (Ma Rainey’s black bottom) and Andrew Rannells ((The prom). Oscars: After Dark not only shows how the winners have their awards engraved, but also the greatest moments of the night Elvis Mitchell.

The Oscars will look far different than ever, not only because of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, but also because this year’s awards are among the most comprehensive in the history of the award. The Oscars are always a must for movie fans, but it will certainly be interesting to see how Hollywood’s biggest free night is handled this year.

The Academy Awards will air on April 25th on ABC. The celebrations begin with Oscars: Into the Spotlight, which begins at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT.
