Martin Scorsese isn't certain he can discover the spark to make his subsequent movie, Killers of the Flower Moon
2020 has had a major impact on everyone's mental health. Between work closings, constant concerns about the global health emergency, and endless bouts of self-isolation, few people feel mentally or physically at the top of their game. Martin Scorsese, who was scheduled to begin shooting his next film before filming began, admitted to Empire that he is no longer sure he can work with the same energy again.
"I like that people appreciate it [my previous film The Irishman]. That touched me very much. This [global health crisis] stopped a creative process. I turned myself in. Especially in the first few months when We. Being locked in our houses has removed a lot of the distraction. I have to find a way to get back to a unique creative impulse for my new movie like I had for The Irishman. Cut away all the awards shows, all that stuff , and being alone in a room with a project again, wondering if I can do something again. "
Scorsese's next film will be with two of his longtime creative collaborators. Robert De Niro and Leonardo DicaprioThis is the first time that the three have worked on a project together. The film bears the title Murderer of the Flower Moonand it is based on the nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by American journalist David Grann.
Even before the lockdown hit, Scorsese's upcoming film encountered a number of obstacles. The best known was that the traditional Hollywood studios were not ready to fund the project with the filmmaker's estimated budget. Fortunately, Apple TV Plus rode in to the rescue, and the company was happy to sign the $ 200 million check the movie required.
This isn't the first time the filmmaker has found streamers to be more accommodating than traditional studios when it comes to budget. Scorsese's previous film, The Irishman, couldn't be lit green until after Netflix agreed to produce the film. Looking back on that experience, Scorsese is pleased with the film he made.
"With The Irishman we achieved what I wanted to do. Whether it's great or good or not, I don't know. I know I could see it. I mean, I have to go back and find that spark. I know not if I can. But the [crisis] made it almost mandatory to look for it. Because everything else is gone, normal life is no longer there. So what do you have? You have people you love, family , and you hope a creative spark, and maybe that can be rekindled for a new film. But I keep going back to the Irish. I think of the Irish. I use the Irish as … I have this experience as Lesson used. "
Hopefully the legendary filmmaker will get his mojo back soon and be back in fighting shape to make his next film, which is eagerly anticipated by cinephiles who are waiting for DiCaprio and De Niro to split up after This Boy & # 39; s Life of 1993 face again.
