Is that MechaGodzilla within the first Godzilla Vs. Kong footage?

MechaGodzilla is said to have been hiding in the trailer of Godzilla Vs Kong. Legendary and Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the highly anticipated film this morning, and people are freaking out. The footage promises a colossal battle between two of the most famous monsters of all time and looks pretty stellar at the same time. The TV commercials released last week were just a taste of what Godzilla vs. Kong has to offer, and luckily we don't have to wait too long to see the action unfold since the movie will be in theaters and premiered on HBO Max on March 26th.

For the first few seconds of the Godzilla vs. Kong trailer, viewers believe they've had a quick look at MechaGodzilla. The monster leaves a massive path of destruction in its wake, although it has not been confirmed that it is really the legendary Kaiju character. The trailer also seems to show someone controlling the monster. A toy leak in January 2020 apparently confirmed MechaGodzilla's inclusion in the film. So it's only a matter of time before we see some footage.

MechaGodzilla was first featured in Toho's 1974 film Godzilla Vs MechaGodzilla, which introduced the monster's backstory. According to the film, aliens invented the mechanical monster to fight Godzilla. In later films, however, the monster is said to have been created by humans to also fight Godzilla. The idea and design of MechaGodzilla come from the 1967 Toho film King Kong Escapes with Mechani-Kong. The mechanical Kong came first, but its legacy pales in comparison to the King of Monsters and takes over the design. Mechani-Kong may be featured in Godzilla versus Kong That seems like a pretty long stretch too.

To date, MechaGodzilla has appeared in every single era of Godzilla. The character is one of the five kaiju that appear in all eras. However, it is unclear what the mechanical monster will do in Godzilla vs. Kong. So far the focus has been mostly on Kong and Godzilla, which is more than enough to keep fans excited. Theories are surfacing among fans who believe that Kong and Godzilla will team up to defeat MechaGodzilla, meaning that director Adam Wingard's words about a winner, who will be announced at the end of the film, will remain true. If Godzilla and Kong team up to beat MechaGodzilla, both win.
