Empire & # 39; s Cookie has unfortunately collapsed: A planned spin-off of the hit drama with Taraji P. Henson, which repeats her role as Cookie, is not making progress at Fox, according to our sister site Variety.
News of the split first surfaced in July, when Empire co-creator Danny Strong co-showruns the potential series alongside Empire vets Yolanda Lawrence and Stacy Littlejohn. The series would have focused on the next chapter for Henson's Cookie after the Empire series finale, which aired in April and completed a six-year run on Fox. However, the cookie-centric spin-off is still being sold to ABC and Hulu, Deadline reports. (It's being produced by 20th Television, now owned by Disney, as part of a first-look deal with Henson.)
Henson received a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award as well as two Emmy nominations for her work as the savage matriarch Loretha "Cookie" Lyon on Empire. She will start a mental health talk show on Facebook Watch called "Peace of Mind With Taraji," and will host the American Music Awards on ABC last month. Her other TV credits include Person of Interest, The Division, and Boston Legal.
