Bridgerton adds two new cast members after Regé-Jean Page leaves

Just days after it became known that Bridgerton was losing Regé-Jean Page, the Netflix drama announced on Monday that it would attract two more new cast members.

Shelley Conn (Terra Nova) and Calam Lynch (Mrs. Wilson) join the ensemble for the second season. Conn will play Mary Sharma, an Earl’s daughter whose marriage to a trader once scandalized her family. Lady Mary has now returned to London with her own daughters and has to endure the trial of the bin one more time. She is the stepmother of Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) new love interest Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley, a new friend from Bridgerton Sex Education.

Meanwhile, Lynch will play Theo Sharpe, a hardworking printer assistant who fights for everyone’s rights.

As previously reported, Charithra Chandran and Rupert Young are also entering the second season, the first as Kate’s sister Edwina and the second as a brand new character who has no connection to Julia Quinn’s books.

On Friday, Netflix confirmed that Page will not return as the Duke of Hastings in season 2. The move was widely anticipated as Season 2 will take a literal and figurative page from Quinn’s second book and focus on Lord Anthony’s search for a bride.

In an interview with Variety, Page confirmed that his Bridgerton engagement is only for one season. “One of the things that are different about it [romance] The genre is that the audience knows the arc is complete, ”he said. “You know this so that you can put people in emotional knots knowing that we will come out and have the marriage and the baby.”
